DTRI participates in the 3rd South Luzon Dairy Fair

"Kami po ang audience ninyo." That was the statement of Dairy Training and Research Institute (DTRI) Director Dr. Amado A.  Angeles during his message at the 3rd South Luzon Dairy Fair (3SLDF) held on October 26-27, 2017 at Tagaytay International Convention Center in Tagaytay City.

With the aim to promote the dairy industry in South Luzon, the 3SLDF was focused  to farmers and other stakeholders for sharing their own experiences, farm practices and insights. It was also a venue for healthy discussions where participants were encouraged to say how they feel about certain aspects that govern the dairy industry. "Let's feel the spirit of camaraderie, cooperation and unity sa pagsulong ng dairy no matter how much is the budget," said Ms. Marilyn Mabale, current administrator of the National Dairy Authority (NDA), in her keynote speech during the dairy fair.

Several topics that concern the dairy industry were presented by some project recipients and representative speakers from Local Government Units, dairy cooperatives, and private companies. The NDA, Cooperative Development Authority, and the Department of Science and Technology gave information on the programs and assistance available to dairy farmers, cooperatives and associations. Dairy Safety Regulations were also discussed including a public consultation on this aspect and preparation for food safety implementation. Farmer and cooperative experiences shared during the event livened up the program.

Participants were able to learn from fellow dairy stakeholders through the presentations on: Focus and Monitor Farms Lameness Management in Dairy Goat , The Dairy Multiplier Farm (DMF) Experience:  Marketing Experience and Strategies of BADACO as Dairy Cooperative, Profitability in Dairy,  “Tagumpay sa Kalabaw”,  “Karanasan sa 22-taong Pagtataguyod ng Federation”. An update on Mastitis and Milk Quality was also presented to help farmers gain knowledge on this topic so they will be on a par with the government standards set forth in food safety. Moreover, Preparation for Food Safety Implementation and Management of Foreign Fund Assistance were also discussed. Private companies, such as the following, were also part of the 3SLDF as exhibitors and presentors: Tetra Consulting Corporation, Reinlab Corporation, Asvet Inc. and Actron Industries Inc.

The 3SLDF was not only a venue for knowledge gain and exchange of insights. Participants also had some fun during the event. Raffles and games were part of the program where dairy-usable prizes were handed out by the NDA South Luzon Department. The 3rd South Luzon Dairy Fair was organized by the NDA South Luzon Department, with full support from DTRI and the Universal Harvester, Inc. and sponsored by the National Dairy Authority.
